Bank & Vogue’s Used Clothing Drive Program was created to give organizations the opportunity to raise funds while recycling textiles and raising awareness about the environmental impact of textiles in landfills. In an effort to increase the reach and effectiveness of the Used Clothing Drive Program we have partnered with The Secondary Materials and Recycled Textiles Association (SMART) and 23 other SMART member companies to sponsor The Textile Recycling Educational Program’s Recycling Rangers.
The Textile Recycling Educational Program was developed by SMART, as part of its continuing effort to raise awareness about textile recycling among teachers and students in Grades K-5 across the United States. One of SMART’s major goals is to impact one million students with the program by December 31, 2015.
Teachers participate in the program by becoming a Recycling Ranger and will receive curriculum and educational support about textile recycling and will also share feedback about how the program has worked in their classrooms. Teachers are also given the opportunity to participate in a Used Clothing Drive to raise funds for their school and the chance to partner with a SMART member who can provide resources and support.
Scott Nowlan, VP at Bank & Vogue expresses his passion for the sponsorship: “We are very excited to be a part of this initiative and to sponsor the SMART Textile Recycling Educational Program Recycling Rangers.” Bank & Vogue’s current goal is to divert 100,000lbs of used products from landfills in North America by December 2014. But this is just the beginning. Continues Scott, “Our goal is to divert as much textile and used consumer goods that we can from landfills with the Used Clothing Drive Program and our partnership with The Recycling Rangers. There are some wonderful things happening in communities all over North America in regards to Textile Recycling, and we are pleased to be a part of these changes.”
